Cars and vans reach the end of the road for lots of reasons: a failed MOT that isn’t worth fixing, an insurance write-off, a breakdown that costs more to repair than the vehicle is worth, or simply years of sitting unused.
We collect the vehicle from your driveway, street, garage or business premises and take it to an authorised treatment facility (ATF) or a scrapyard of your choice. Non-runners, flat tyres and accident damage are all fine. Just tell us about the vehicle’s condition when you book.
Doing it properly
In the UK, scrap vehicles must go to an authorised treatment facility. Here’s what usually happens.
Your vehicle is taken to an ATF, where it is depolluted and recycled.
The ATF issues a Certificate of Destruction once the vehicle is scrapped.
You need to tell the DVLA the vehicle has gone to a scrapyard. GOV.UK explains how.
By law, scrap metal dealers can’t pay cash for scrap vehicles in England and Wales.

Paperwork
Have the vehicle’s logbook (V5C) ready if you have it, along with the keys. Once the vehicle has been scrapped, the authorised treatment facility issues a Certificate of Destruction, which is your proof that the vehicle has been disposed of properly.
You also need to tell the DVLA that the vehicle has gone to a scrapyard, and cancel or transfer your insurance and any remaining vehicle tax. GOV.UK has step-by-step guidance on scrapping a vehicle.
